Os criadores e artistas estão debaixo de agressão na Tunísia, tendo a situação chegado recentemente a extremos inqualificáveis, incluindo destruição de obras e ameaças de morte, com uma perigosa complacência do governo. Está a correr uma petição para os apoiar.

CALL FOR THE SUPPORT OF TUNISIAN ARTISTS

Our friends, artists and intellectuals throughout the world are requested to help us release official communiqués via unions, artistic associations or civic societies in different countries in order to condemn the Tunisian Government and its Minister of Culture for their cowardly attitude and their degrading remarks concerning Tunisian artists, placing the latter and their families in jeopardy.

Their repeated and groundless declarations accusing wrongly artists of "attacking the sacred" have ended up by manipulating part of the population- the least educated and the most vulnerable as far as the issue of religion is concerned- and have resulted in more and more numerous and hostile calls clearly permitting the murder of artists. Henceforth, a large number of artists receive death threats everyday via user network, phone calls and SMS.

The widest possible exposure of this Government via the press and the Internet would be a fantastic denial of its charges, which will preserve the liberties of consciousness, of creation and of expression as well as save artists' lives.

The situation is seriously critical and so your support of and commitment to our cause will be a most salutary action.
